Siena

You know the crayon colour: "Burnt Siena"? Well, it's named after the Italian city of Siena, which was an entire lovely city built of red brick, before the 1530's (if I remember correctly).

I visited Siena as part of a "Tuscany in a Day" tour. which was in itself a bit of a mistake. You really can't see Tuscany in a day and you definitely can't see it as part of a massive group of 120 people split into 3 buses!

Still I made the most of the situation, and used what precious "free time" was offered to sit on the warm cobblestone pavement of the center square of Siena, This is where the famous horse race, il Palio di Siena, is run every year.

The city of Siena is a world heritage site and rightly so. It was the perfect place to sit and relax in on a warm, sunny, September day.
