For those of you who know me personally (most of you) you know that of the many aspects of my personality, a sense of humour is not the best developed. I have often bemoaned this fact, reading one too many magazine article about how the #1 most important quality people look for is a sense of humour.
However, there is good news. I have found that becoming a teacher and trying to learn the best strategies for managing a classroom and imparting knowledge have taught me comedic timing. I noticed this for the first time this week, when I had every single one of my classes laughing. For my special interest classes, I had a joke to go with each rule, and by the end of the week, I felt like a stand-up comedian, cranking out the same joke to a new audience, knowing how to time it to get the most laughs. My grade 2's were the same, only I had the help of a hilarious story called "Mr. Wolf's Week" - highly recommended if you are in grade 1 or 2!
It feels good to laugh in class, and it feels even better to see them enjoying themselves. They need some time to loosen up and relax, and who knows, maybe I'll leave Fu Hsing with a great sense of humour! I can only hope.
